Literacy Night Information Reminder:
Calling all parents! On Tuesday, October 16th, we will have our first Parent Engagement Literacy Night! This evening is for all tracks (including tracked out Track 4) and we invite you and your Alston Ridge student to attend and receive grade level information: Parents who RSVP (see below) will receive a packet with their child’s data and grade level teachers (not necessarily your child’s teacher) will discuss the meaning of that data and ways you can support your child at home with grade-specific literacy strategies, skills, and standards. While you are in class, your child will be engaging in literacy-based activities, games, and/or hearing from a visiting author! It is going to be a great evening! To go smoothly please note:
We are working on food trucks so that you can eat before you learn! Times would be 5:00-6:00 with the café open to eat. We will not be able to bring food to the room, so clean plates by 6pm. :)
We look forward to engaging parents and your ARES student(s). If you need childcare for younger siblings ages 2-5, and RSVP by October 5th (see link below) we will have volunteers available in our Gym from 6:00-7:30.
For all families who RSVP by October 5th – Your name will be entered in a drawing for a K-2 or 3-5 book basket! To best conserve our resources, data packets will only be created for families who RSVP. Parents who do not RSVP may still attend but will not have data for their child in the parent classroom.
Additional information will be on our website, sent by your child’s teacher, and updated in their newsletter. For now, please complete this google form https://bit.ly/2NkBpaJ and save the date: Tuesday October 16th!
Volunteers for Field Trip: We have two parent volunteers so far for our Trip to the Pumpkin Patch. We need at least 2-3 more parent volunteers to help us. If you would like to help, you will need to register in the front office and complete a background check in the front office. Please email me if you can help.
Maternity Leave- This Friday will be my last day before I go out on Maternity Leave. If everything goes according to plan, I will return on November 26th. Our substitute will be Mrs. Mayo. More information about Mrs. Mayo will be sent home next week. She has covered many maternity leaves for our school. Mrs. Moore will still be with the class.
Report Cards & Conferences- Report Cards will be coming home this Friday in a brown envelope. Please keep all the papers inside the envelope and only return the envelope to school. Please sign the outside of the envelope beside first quarter and return it in your child’s homework folder.
I will hold conferences late November/early December when I return from Maternity Leave. I will email out a link for you to sign up for a slot.
Raz Kids, Scholastic, & Brain Pop Please return the money for these subscriptions as soon as possible in the labeled envelope in your child’s folder. These are subscriptions that we use often in class. If you would like for your child to have access to these programs, please send the money in.
Reading and Writing: We are still working on beginning sounds in words, rhyming words, and word families. We are using the five senses to help us in our writing. We are sounding out words in our writing and spelling sight words correctly.
Social Studies: We are still working on our wants and needs unit. We are still discussing what wants and needs are and explaining why.
Math: We are working on showing numbers 0-10 on a ten frame and subitizing numbers 0-10. We are learning to subitize numbers larger than 5 as 5 + the rest. We are also drawing representations of numbers 0-10 and counting to 100.
